Eating clean is your ticket to being healthy and losing weight.  Eating a healthy diet is going to give you the best results from your workout and your overall health.  Believe it or not some people manage their weight completely with their diet and minimal exercise. I’ve seen some manage their weight with a clean diet and intermittent fasting. For more on intermittent fasting, check out my article, How Intermittent Fasting Benefits Weight Loss. Eating clean is going to increase your longevity, how you feel, and reverse any health issues that you may be having. It’s also going cause weight loss. I have had clients reverse diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure through eating a clean diet.

Here are my tips for eating clean.

Stop eating processed foods.

I’m not telling you that you have to stop having pasta, but I am telling you to pay more attention to the nutrition labels.  If you are buying tomato sauce and you can’t pronounce some of the ingredients on the label then you need to buy a different sauce.  Hotdogs, and sandwich meats should be removed from your grocery list.

Cut refined sugar.

Sugar is your ticket to weight gain which opens the door to diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.  Cut the sodas, cakes, pies, and candy from your diet.

Cook your own food.

The best way to prepare your food is at home.  Even if you order a grilled chicken salad from a fast food restaurant, rest assured the mean is processed and has preservatives.  Buy meat from the grocery store and grill or bake it.  It tastes the best and is better for your overall health.

Protein, fat, and Carbohydrate ratio.

Your diet should include a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.  The best ration for your goals will depend on your goals.  Just know that a balanced diet will lower hunger cravings, and give your body the fuel it needs to function properly.

Eat whole fruits and vegetables.

Stop buying canned vegetables in syrup.  Only buy packaged fruit if it’s in 100 percent fruit.  Buy fruits and vegetables in season to get the most nutrients.  As a bonus, it will save you money, and taste better!

Be selective about the meat you eat.

Eat meat that’s grass-fed, or free-range.  We like to purchase our meats from Wegmans.  It has a higher quality than the meat from other stores that I won’t name on this post.

Limit dairy products.

My preference is to cut dairy products all together.  However, if you do eat dairy, limit it.  Over time you will notice a change in your body if you limit your servings each day instead of getting extra cheese on everything you eat.

Eat unsalted nuts.

Nuts are a good source of nutrients.  However, there is a lot of added salt in nuts that can be bad if you eat other foods that have sodium.

Limit sodium.

Sodium is sugars half-cousin.  Too much sodium can cause kidney trouble, high blood pressure, and kidney trouble.  Salt is used as a preservative in meat and cheese which is another reason to remove processed foods from your diet.  Uses sea salt instead of table salt. It has more flavor in smaller servings.

Drink plenty of water.

Water is essential to your health.  In my opinion, you need at least 10 cups per day.  For active people, they need closer to a gallon.  It will give you energy and flush out toxins from the body.  Your body can over survive weeks without food, only days without water!

Your body is already prepared to do what it needs to.  All you have to do is give it the fuel it needs and make a decision to move. Fuel your body with high octane clean eating.  If you have questions about how to eat clean to fuel your goals contact me in the form below or at transitionalfitnesscoach@gmail.com.
